Strathcona County is located east of the city of Edmonton and has an estimated population (2006) of 83,642, with 57,772 in the urban hamlet of Sherwood Park alone.  Other hamlets governed by Strathcona County include Ardrossan, Antler Lake, Collingwood Cove, Half Moon Lake, Hastings Lake, Josephburg, North Cooking Lake and South Cooking Lake.  Rural parks such as the Strathcona Wilderness Centre, Elk Island National Park and Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Recreation areas (among numerous others) offer hiking and day excursions in the summer and excellent cross-country skiing in winter.  Also, Strathcona County is home to a number of golf courses including a Jack Nicklaus signature course designed by the golf great himself.
