About Sherwood Park

Sherwood Park is a suburban bedroom community located in Strathcona County, only minutes east of Edmonton.  Sherwood Park started as a satellite town for workers in the Edmonton area and had its first residents in 1955/56 - by the end of 1956, Sherwood Park had 30 families and has grown continually since then to a 2006 estimated population of 57,772.  Sherwood Park is now one of Edmonton’s main suburb communities, with a drive to downtown possible in 20-30 minutes.  Although large enough to be designated a city, Sherwood Park is often called the world’s largest hamlet because it is governed by Strathcona County and has a designation of "specialized municipality" from the province of Alberta.  Sherwood Park is a residential community with single-family houses, condominiums and estate homes surrounded by shopping and family-focused amenities.
